Area Traffic Management Plan for Central Silk Board Area

Electronics City Industries Association (ELCIA) commissioned BCCF to come up with solutions for the traffic log-jams at the approaches to the Central Silk Board (CSB) junction.

Central Silk Board junction is situated at the junction of Hosur Road and Outer Ring Road (ORR). The two major travel corridors connect residential and employment centers in the eastern, south-eastern and southern parts of Bangalore to the rest of the city.

During morning peak-hours the flow is southward on Hosur road and eastward on ORR while the flow reverses in the evening. In addition to the CSB junction the focus of the study are the corridors from Jayadeva hospital junction to Agara on ORR and Check-post junction to Bommanahalli Junction on Hosur Road.

BCCF carried out the study in three stages—reconnaissance, data collection and analysis and recommendations.

1. Reconnaissance: Carried out by the BCCF technical team and based on inputs from ELCIA representatives

2. Data Collection: A number of data points were collected such as junction geometrics, vehicular and pedestrian volumes, traffic flow pattern, and parking facilities.

3. Analysis & Recommendations: After analyzing the volume, capacity, and traffic patterns BCCF formulated the mitigation measures to de-congest the corridors. The measures address capacity, pedestrian safety, geometry, and alternate paths.
